DON JULIO SILVER TEQUILA

Reviewed by:
Key Lime Lee and imaginary friends (because it's bad to drink alone)

Location:
Su Casa Mexican Restaurant

So I was waiting for a friend at a Mexican Restaurant in southern Connecticut and figured I might as well wait at the bar. And since they had a lot of tequila, I figured I would just do my share and drink some. So the bartender poured me a shot of Don Julio Silver. Now I should tell you that I don't drink my tequila with a lime unless it's piss poor tequila. I should also tell you that the only white (sorry - silver) tequilas I've ever had were actually piss poor. In fact, it was white (sorry - silver) well tequila that holds the distinction of being the only shot I've ever flatly refused at a show.

So it was with some bravado and some trepidation that I took my first sip of the Don Julio Silver. Admittedly I had never tasted a 100 percent blue agave silver, so I waited for that familiar killer bite. And waited. And waited.

All right, so eventually it DID bite - this is still tequila after all. Just smelling it made me feel like I was well on my way to being all f*cked up. But wow - what a smooth tequila this one is!

I even took the time to write down, in order, what it tasted like.

First, it was sweet, like honey.

Second came the agave

Finally there was that tequila/alcohol bite.

I never knew silver tequilas could be so tasty.... If you're going to sip a silver tequila, it might as well be this one.
