Island Artists

No, Bob Marley is not on this page. Why? Because if you want the really famous island artists, just go to our Required Listening page. Here we wanted to expose you to some island artists that are a little outside of the mainstream.

What is Island?
We're not exactly sure. I mean, if we go with a literal definition, even Mr. Buffett would be excluded. So we're going to define "island" as anything from the Caribbean or any artist that makes us feel like we want a boat drink and a one-way ticket to the Caribbean. Okay?

Make A Suggestion!
And hey - if you think we've missed an island or island-style artist, just let us know!

The Calypso Nuts

For years people have been begging for entertainment, not just music, but entertainment! It appears that "The CalypsoNuts" are here for just that reason.
Sponsored in part by Corona Extra and Corona Light, the Virginia Beach based CalypsoNuts are more than the average variety act. Their "Entertainment Without a Net" approach guarantees that each show is custom tailored to suit the audience at hand. From island ballads to dance music and everything in between, the night is filled with the music and show that fits the event.

Hugo Duarte

Hugo left college and started playing in clubs (like Tween Waters Inn in Captiva and Crow's Nest in Hilton Head), getting serious about the music business when he realized he could make a living doing what he loved best. A few years later the road took him farthest south. Searching for his heritage, he arrived for the first time in the Keys -- and fell in love with the area. Hugo and The Full Sail Band strummed and sang at Rick's, Sloppy Joes, Hogs Breath Saloon, Turtle Kraals, The Bull, The Top, Casa Marina.

John Frinzi

TropicalDreamz.net says: You may have seen John at MOTM....he's there every year. Once you hear this album, he'll be on your "must see" list. Sounding at times like John Mellencamp and at others, an early Jimmy Buffett, John has done himself proud here with ten strong originals, several co-written by none other than Sir Alex Leist. From ballad to honky-tonk, John's strong vocals & fine acoustic guitar work have made this CD an excellent example of roots music at its best.

Michael McCloud

Michael McCloud is on the KLC's short-list of "must see" artists every time we get to Key West. A grizzled veteran of the Key West music scene, McCloud is a talented songwriter. If you're looking for a warm, fuzzy entertainer, well, McCloud's curmudgeonly stage demeanor may not be your thing. But then he probably doesn't really care. Make sure you check him out next time you're on the island.

Jim Morris

Jim Morris is an articulate singer/songwriter with a devotion to storytelling. Whether it is a thoughtful ballad about doomed love or an anthem to a night of drunken revelry, the listener can always count on well-crafted songs with carefully drawn characters, clever lyrics, and satirical charm. Although Jim’s musical style is admittedly reminiscent of Jimmy Buffett and Jerry Jeff Walker, he has a knack for defying categorization. He mixes a whimsical island sound with a splash of Texas to produce a sound that is uniquely Gulf and Western.

Pete & Wayne

Words alone can't describe Pete and Wayne. We first met them when we staggered into Sloppy Joe's for just one drink. Four hours later, we were still there. They put on the funniest show you will ever see. You'll laugh. You'll drink. You'll probably pee your pants. Just tell them the Key Lime Cafe sent you.
